It’s been a while since I did one of these! Too long. Anyways, enjoy some pictures of my garden for this year. I’ll update this post as I harvest things.

Onions

These were one of the first things in the ground. I started them early and added one of the row covers I got at Tractor Supply for $5 on sale last fall. They seem much stronger than in prior years, so I’ll likely continue that for the future

Potatoes

These also went in the ground pretty early. Rotated to a slightly different spot, I usually get a great crop. I plant small red potatoes which are great for breakfast omelets, home fries, etc.

Corn

After having years of animal destruction and heavy winds that caused my sweet corn to not grow well (or be destroyed), I’ve opted this year to grow ornamental corn. We have a CSA with the local farmer and the corn we get from him is far better. I mainly use the stalks for Fall Decor.

Pumpkins

I am growing these under row covers - we have a major Squash Vine Borer problem near me.

I haven’t grown these in several years, as even with insect monitoring, pesticides, we’ve never had much luck except for one time a long time ago. I am planning on three crops - one planted in early may, and starting the end of june, and one mid july Hopefully, this will allow me to stagger past the insects.

I use these monitoring traps which work very well, and also use spinosad-based insecticides. As with most of my plants at the end of the season, I burn my vines to try and avoid over-wintering pests.

Beans

We have had great bean crops the past couple years, and have been growing them on galvanized panel sections. Once established, they are great - we have some small insects which tend to feast on the tiny plants and kill them before they can get established. To combat that, I put netting over the plants to keep them isolated.

We grow beans on one side, and pickling cucumbers on the other.

Carrots

Carrots also went in the ground early, as they should. I planted from seed and not seed tape this year.

Jalapeños

A favorite of my family (these last all winter long for Chili) frozen. I have 3x jalapeno plants, and a couple other sweet / mild plants. I’ll end up cross-breeding the jalapenos with the others to get them to be spicy.

Blueberries

We keep these covered from early spring until they’re done producing berries. Make sure to keep them tight - otherwise, birds can and will find their way INSIDE!

Strawberry Plants

After removing these from the garden a few years ago - starting again in some containers. Since planting, I have already propagated them to a 2nd pot.

Pear Trees

So far, this year we’re doing well. We’ve been applying an orchard spray every ~2 weeks, to keep insects and disease at bay. One year, we got five 5-gallon pails full of pears. This year, we won’t get that many, but we’re hoping that with spraying and installation of an electric fence closer to harvest time, we’ll keep more of them.
